Malia Obama’s Short Film ‘The Heart’ to Premiere at Sundance Film Festival
Malia Obama, under the pseudonym Malia Ann, is making waves at the Sundance Film Festival with her short film, “The Heart.” The film is part of the U.S. short fiction films showcased at the festival in Park City, Utah.
Written and directed by Malia Obama, “The Heart” delves into the story of a grieving son who receives an unusual request from his late mother’s will. The film made its debut at Sundance and continues to be screened throughout the week.
In a video message, Obama shared insights about her film, saying, “The film is about lost objects and lonely people and forgiveness and regret, but I also think it works hard to uncover where tenderness and closeness can exist in these things. We hope you enjoy the film and it makes you feel a bit less lonely, or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are.”
Prior to its Sundance screening, “The Heart” was showcased at the Telluride Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival, where it received recognition in the best live action short category.
