The U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC) proudly kicked off its National Conference and 15th Anniversary Celebration with a significant event on Capitol Hill. On July 16, 2024, USBC Hill Day brought together over 90 national Black chamber leaders and chamber affiliates to engage in strategic meetings with congressional staff, marking 15 years of dedicated advocacy for Black businesses nationwide.

USBC Hill Day served as a powerful demonstration of the organization’s ongoing commitment to economic empowerment and policy advocacy. The event aimed to achieve three primary objectives:

  1. Raise Awareness: USBC leaders sought to enhance congressional members’ awareness of the existence and impact of U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. affiliates within their respective districts. These discussions focused on the social and economic contributions of member companies, highlighting their vital role in local communities.
  2. Educate on Current Issues: The meetings provided an essential platform to inform congressional members and their staff about the pressing issues affecting the minority business community at both national and local levels. USBC representatives outlined the challenges faced by Black businesses and the broader implications for economic equity.
  3. Request Legislative Action: USBC leaders advocated for specific actions to support local minority businesses. These requests included cosponsoring legislation, sending letters of concern, making floor statements, holding field hearings, and requesting committee hearings on relevant issues.

Ron Busby Sr., President & CEO of the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., emphasized the importance of these meetings. “USBC Hill Day is a critical opportunity for us to educate and engage our congressional leaders, showcasing the strength and significance of Black businesses in their districts. We are committed to ensuring that our members’ voices are heard and that tangible actions are taken to support our community,” said Busby.

The initial round of meetings underscored USBC’s role as a leading advocate for Black businesses, fostering relationships with key policymakers to drive meaningful change. This event set the stage for a week of impactful discussions, advocacy, networking, and celebrations as part of the USBC National Conference.
