SZA to Receive Prestigious Songwriting Honor, Becomes Second Black Woman Awarded
SZA, the chart-topping artist, is set to receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala in 2024. This award recognizes gifted young songwriters who have made a significant impact on the music industry. SZA’s achievement marks her as the second black woman to earn this distinction, following Alicia Keys who was honored in 2005.
Nile Rodgers, the Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, expressed his admiration for SZA’s recent success, stating, “Who could argue that the last two years belong to SZA, with her incredible artistry. She so deserves to receive the Hal David Starlight Award!” This acknowledgment comes as SZA continues to influence the music scene, not only with her existing works but also through her evolving projects. Earlier this year, she announced that while working on a deluxe version of her album ‘SOS,’ it has transformed into a new album titled ‘Lana.’
